Our commitment to nonprofits goes beyond their fundraising efforts. We also double down on beliefs that inspire nonprofits to tackle complex issues such as gender and racial equality, reproductive health and LGBTQ+ rights, social and environmental justice, education, domestic violence, immigrant services and more.

That is why we established public-facing values as guides for the use of our technology. We review every nonprofit membership application to confirm alignment with these values. This ensures that our member nonprofits use our products, solutions and platform to make the world a better place by elevating marginalized voices, striving to meet the needs of the underserved, imagining a safer future for their communities and advocating for equality.

Recently, we decided to be more explicit about the scope our values. Although we understood the breadth of our intentions, we also know the power of public declarations and importance of their specificity, especially as current events and contemporary culture wars have shone spotlights on different people struggling for voice and recognition.

As of today, we are proud to share our new and expanded Give Lively values. Previously stated values are shown below in italics; new values are in bold.

Our member nonprofits must not:

discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in any activities, programs or operations;
• advocate against or deny the rights of women;
advocate against or deny the rights or existence of anyone on the basis of their sex, gender, gender expression or sexual orientation, including transgender and gender nonconforming people;
advocate against or deny the rights of historically underrepresented groups, including Black, brown, AAPI and Indigenous people;
advocate against or deny environmental or social sustainability practices, especially with regard to renewable energy; land, water and air rights and use; and the growing climate emergency;
• advocate for the sale, ownership and/or civilian use of assault weapons, weapons of war, high capacity magazines, automatic weapons or any mechanism that can convert a firearm into an automatic weapon;
• disseminate hate speech or dangerous speech, promote or incite violence online or offline.

Any nonprofits that promote these activities or deny service to individuals based on these attributes are not allowed to become Give Lively members.
